The Location

The intended site is on a 2.5 acre (70k sq. ft) flat lot in Cypress Park, across the street from the future Taylor Yard Riverside Park, adjacent to the L.A. River, the new orange pedestrian bridge, Taylor Yard Apartments, and railraod tracks. This location is intertwined with the founding of Los Angeles. The nearby land was a historical home to indigenous people. Tongva/Gabrieleno villages populated the riverside for hundreds of years. In 1769 the Spanish Portola expedition with Father Serra spent the night nearby and named the river, Los Angeles. In the first recorded written words in So Cal, Father Crespi rhapsodized about this "green, lush valley,” and its "very full flowing, wide river.”
