Greenway 2020

In 2013, River LA launched Greenway 2020 to advocate for connecting all 51 miles of the L.A. River along one singular bike path. Collaborating with other community partners, Metro and other agencies, River LA hosted public one-on-ones gatherings and policy and planning lunches with stakeholders, and community activations. Funding has been secured by proposition Measure M.

Today, the bike path along the river has been extended to over forty miles in length. Only about 8 miles remain to be completed. This section is in downtown where rail lines on both sides of the banks do not allow the room for a bike lane, so Metro and the Bureau of Engineering are designing a path in the channel, which necessitates complex safety systems to shut the path during rain storms.

Once the 51 miles of the LA River are connected, the LA River bike way will be one of the longest urban recreational arteries in the country.
